Alan McGrory joins Windstar Cruises as Vice President of Marine Hotel Operations

Windstar Cruises announced that Alan McGrory has joined the company as Vice President of Marine Hotel Operations. In this role, he is responsible for leading the development and implementation of Windstar’s Marine Hotel Operations and enhancing the onboard guest experience. McGrory will report directly to Hans Birkholz, CEO and President of Windstar.

Brittany Ferries suspends services

Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth and Plymouth to France and Spain have been suspended indefinitely following two days of strikes. The company has been on a cost cutting drive following three years of losses, which has resulted in protests by some French crew members who are unhappy with working terms and conditions.

Global Cruise Industry announces latest safety policy

On behalf of the global cruise industry, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) and the European Cruise Council (ECC) today announced that the cruise industry has adopted an additional safety policy. This policy, which exceeds current international regulatory requirements, addresses issues related to the loading of lifeboats by crewmembers for training purposes. It is an outcome of the Cruise Industry Operational Safety Review, which was launched in January 2012.

Fort Lauderdale, FL — September 12, 2012 — Untitled DocumentCruise Lines International Association (CLIA) today announced it has partnered with Luxury Travel Exchange International, an invitation-only event designed to connect luxury travel advisors with luxury and travel suppliers through networking, to feature the CLIA Specialty Cruise Collection, which was launched in July.  The event will take place from Tuesday, November 27 to Thursday, November 29, 2012 at The Palazzo Las Vegas.

CLIA supports and promotes an association of small ship and river cruise lines, through the Specialty Cruise Collection, a new marketing initiative.

Jennifer Fernandez, group show and event director for LTX, said the group and its member lines are excited to offer this new program exclusively at the inaugural LTX.

"The cruise experience has truly evolved and is seeing continuous growth and revenue opportunities within the specialty cruise market, particularly in the luxury segment," she said.

Azamara Club Cruises to overhaul fleet

Azamara Club Cruises has revealed plans to renovate its two ships, Azamara Journey and Azamara Quest. The two liners will enter drydock in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Each will receive a ship-wide facelift and a new dark blue hull.
